Home Improvements Stage One

We've been super busy of late making some (we think) improvements to the house. Myself and dad have been doing the greater majority of the painting and gardening (we both took holidays) : dad has been super great driving me to bunnings and spending days on end painting. How boring is painting? I swear its the worst thing ever, I did all the fences in two days, three coats and could barely move my legs for a week after. We wanted to paint in winter/autumn to avoid the heat, but the main day we painted ended up being 28 degrees plus in the middle of winter!. Over the last two days we have done the back of the house, my dad has done the trim of the sides, so we just need to roll the sides of the house and he will do the windows.

We had quite a transformation in the garden, three trips up to Caboolture markets (we fitted 9 lilly pilly topiary trees in dads car: how!) and I've changed the front. I have made it as drought resistant as possible, saying that we had quite alot of rain over winter and everything is really lush.

I have in the front garden now:

Front steps: Orange blossom, Camellia and two small azeleas.

Middle: Two gardenia's, lots of french lavender and alyssum ground cover.

Side: French and English Lavender, Snap dragons, Azelea's, Australian Tea tree blossom's, Australian cherry blossom 'Alicia rose', Grey wattle blossoms, Jasmine and Boganvillia's.

Side gardens: Lilly pilly topiary trees (8 of them), snap dragons, roses and Australia Bush blossoms in purple and black.

Enterance: 2 citrus topiary trees.

Hanging Baskets: White Bush petunia's and Wild Rose

In pots, two pink kangaroo paws.

On the patio: In pink pots, Jade trees and money trees (from nan and pop) and mainly succulents.

Phew!

We painted the house in three colours, O'pussom for the main walls, Moondance Cream for the fences and trim and Jervis Bay blue for the balustrading.

We also got ivory rock for the driveway.

Dad picked up the church pew on the side of the road (its been collection time again!) and I painted it calypso pink and we got some metal flamingo's a few months ago which are in the garden aswell. He also picked up two tables beside the road, one the one I painted pink and an awesome one I painted blue which is currently holding our printer in the spare room until we get a filing cabinet.

I got the table and chair set of ebay and I resprayed it. The cushions were made using 1 peice of material each purchased from Big W for all of $4 each!

In the house:

In the front room: some flamingo cushions! They're great. I also have a dress made out of the material (thanks to one of stevie's customers). We also got a great big rug for the front room and a tiki metal sign which goes above the indoor window. At the Redcliffe settlement fair I got a awesome murano orange vase for bargain price of $10 (they normally go for $100 plus at the very least) and a hawaiian tin for the bar.

We also got a flotaki rug for the study.

In our room I got some geisha tapestry frames made which are beside our bed.

I have also been picking up many babushka's for the kitchen from a variety of op shop's.

Dad is getting a babushka cake made for my b'day this year...yea!

A few weeks back (well 2) was the Redcliffe festival, mum and I went on a saturday it was celebrating the first settlement of it as a penal colony I think 84 years ago? Anyway there was a re-enactment, the main drag was closed off, there were markets, great bands...including a bee gees tribute who were really good (they were from Scarborough and lived at the end of our street), hot rod cars ect...awesome food! I ate some lovely krishna food and mum had some swish tapas. We were there from just before 9am to 2pm! We also went on a harley trike ride for $8 each which went for about 20 minutes. I Held onto mum so tight and screamed the whole way! We went up via the beach up near our house and he was going so fast I was nearly sick! I could never ever go on one again! hhehehe how I went on it in the first place surprises me!

Ok, now for some pics! Hopefully before Xmas we will have the front latticed in with the fretwork and new door.

House.
